IN BRILLIANCE PAST THE SOUTHPORT PIER

Tuesday 11th October, 2-4pm, Holy Trinity Parish Church, Formby

In 1942 the writer Mervyn Peake (author of the Gormenghast series) was a patient at the Southport Convalescent Hosiptal. Whilst there, his poetry explored both his confinement in the hospital and the freedom of the sea beyond its windows. This session, led by Dr James Bainbridge, will examine these poems in detail against Peake’s correspondence from this period of his life.

The University of Liverpool is a partner in the Sefton Coast Landscape Partnership Scheme and is developing a wide variety of lectures, workshops and part-time courses for both the general public and staff and volunteers. The scheme is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and events are free to Sefton residents.
